GNA is implementing Latin America's largest project of natural gas power plant park and the LNG terminal in the newly built Port of Açu, Brazil. The project includes two natural gas-fired power plants with a total capacity of 3 GW and the LNG import terminal with a capacity of 21 thousand cubic metres per day. Siemens will be responsible for the supply of the equipment and operation of power plants.

The natural gas is supplied to the power plants by the newly built LNG storage facility BW Magna, with a capacity of 170 000 cubic metres, and the project is supplied with liquified natural gas by major oil and gas trading company BP.

Under the contract concluded with Gas Natural Açu (GNA), a joint venture of Prumo Logistica, BP and Siemens, the project, as the operator of the LNG Terminal KN is responsible for the smooth operation of the LNG Terminal, including the technical and commercial operation of the installations of the quay and on it, gas pipeline and gas metering stations.

KN established a company KN Açu Serviços de Terminal de GNL Ltda., which is responsible for the execution of this project in Brazil and is gathered a team of up to 30 local professionals to begin the activities in 2020. The strategic management and supervision of the project is ensured by KN team in Lithuania.

The contract is concluded for a period of 13 years and can be extended upon mutual agreement. LNG terminal at the port of Açu is began its operations in 2021 for the commissioning of GNA’s Thermal Power Plant, UTE GNA I.

KN has already partnered with companies developing LNG projects in Latin America. In 2015 the company was awarded a consultancy service tender in Cartagena Port, Colombia. The team of KN provided consultancy services on the technical conditions of the port and terminal operations, the risk and security management, as well as training of the key specialists and provided other assistance in the commissioning of the LNG terminal.
