Global technology revolution in the nineteenth century offered a higher source of light – kerosene lamp instead of candlelight, which significantly increased a kerosene demand in Klaipėda city and surrounding areas.

In 1857, the embankment operating the closest to the gate of the port was intended to load kerosene. This is the first fact that Klaipėda started loading oil products.

In 1868, the first ship that was carrying kerosene has moored in this embankment.

This is interesting: the first four-seat car “Panhard-Levasseur” was registered in Lithuania in 1896. This increased not only kerosene, but also car fuel demand.
1900 – 1959

Due to a significant, almost double increase in gasoline and kerosene demand, the first oil terminal tanks were build in 1925 on the territory of current KN complex.

During this period, the new railway track was launched into operation to supply petroleum products in railway tanks.

The oil products were brought to the port of Klaipėda from various world countries, such as the Black Sea ports – Batumi and Tuapse.

During the World War II, the infrastructure of the oil terminal was damaged.

In 1959, after the restoration of its activities, the first railway rack was established in the Klaipėda oil export and transfer base, and already at the end of the year the first tanker loaded with sailed away.

In 1959, 0,75 million tons of oil products were handled. The oil products were exported to England, Cuba, Poland, Belgium, the Scandinavian countries through the Klaipėda oil base.

In 1966, the Klaipėda oil transfer base was recognized as the best and the most modern base in relation to equipment in the region.

1994 – 2014

In 1994, the oil terminal was reorganized and Stock Company “Klaipėdos nafta” was established.

In 2002, the trademark of the company was modified – the new logo of AB „Klaipėdos nafta“ consisted of a globe signifying the globality, and the first letter of the Company name – KN.

In 2009, after the restoration of the Ministry of Energy of the Republic of Lithuania, the majority of AB „Klaipėdos nafta“ shares was transferred to the management of the company.

In 2012, the Government decided to transfer the management of the Subačius fuel base, where the mandatory state oil reserve is stored, to AB „Klaipėdos nafta“.

At the end of 2014, the company’s business strategy for 2015-2020 was confirmed, according to which 200 million euros was provided for investments, most of which was provided for modernization of AB „Klaipėdos nafta“ oil terminal.

At the 10th Congress of the crude oil, LPG and petroleum products held in 2015, AB „Klaipėdos nafta“ won two prizes: „Sustainability 2015“ and the main – „Grand Prix 2015“.
